What the £650 job includes

OE-spec kit

Belt and the matching tensioner parts for the PureTech layout.

Oil system clean

The pick-up strainer is cleaned so rubber debris does not cut oil pressure.

Correct oil

PSA-approved 5W30 and a new filter. The wrong oil is hard on this belt.

Warranty

Every wet belt replacement comes with our own 12-month / 12,000-mile parts and labour warranty, honoured at our Royston and Swindon workshops.

Water pump: an optional extra

The water pump sits outside the belt system, so it is not part of the wet belt job. It can be added as an extra. Ask us for a price.

Why PureTech belts fail early around Royston

The official interval is often quoted around 6 years or 62,000 miles. On short runs to Baldock, Letchworth or the A10 the oil can pick up fuel and moisture, and the belt sheds sooner. We see cars that need the job from around 40,000–60,000 miles.

Book it if you hear a cold rattle, if the oil looks glittery, if pressure has dropped, or if the last service used a 5W30 that is not PSA-approved. Leaving it risks a blocked strainer and a damaged engine.

Other signs worth getting checked include a loss of power, or the engine management light or oil pressure warning light coming on. These can have other causes too, so we check before quoting.

PureTech 1.2 wet belt replacement: what we do

On the PureTech 1.2, the timing belt runs in the engine oil. As the rubber ages, particles can block the oil strainer and cut oil pressure, so the belt should be replaced on time, not left to fail. We fit an OE-spec wet belt kit, clean the oil system so no debris is left behind, and refill with the correct oil and a new filter. The water pump sits outside the belt system, so it is not part of the job, but it can be added as an extra.

The job is £650 fixed at our Royston workshop, with a quote first and free collection within 5 miles. Every wet belt replacement comes with our own 12-month / 12,000-mile parts and labour warranty, honoured at our Royston and Swindon workshops. If you have a Peugeot 108 or Citroën C1, ask us first, as those models may use a different engine.

PureTech questions

Is a 2024 PureTech always a wet belt?

No. Some newer versions use a chain. We check before we order parts.

Does oil brand matter?

Approval matters more than the label on the front. We refill with PSA B71 2290-type 5W30.

Do you fit a new sump every time?

Only if the original will not seal cleanly after the strainer clean. That is quoted first, not added after the job.

Can you collect a 208 or Corsa from Hitchin?

Yes. Free within 5 miles of Lower Gower Road, a small fee beyond that.

Is the water pump included?

No. The water pump sits outside the belt system, so it is not part of the wet belt job. It can be added as an extra, and we quote it first.
