Brake repairs Royston: the work we do

Brakes are checked on every service, but you can book a brake inspection on its own at any time.

Pads and discs

Front and rear pads and discs replaced with quality parts, bedded in and road tested before the car goes back.

Calipers and hoses

Sticking or seized calipers, worn slide pins and perished hoses found and replaced.

Brake fluid

Brake fluid absorbs water over time. We test it and change it when it is due or contaminated.

Drum brakes and shoes

Many cars still have drum brakes at the rear. We check the shoes, wheel cylinders and adjusters, and replace worn shoes in pairs.

Signs your brakes need attention

If you notice any of these, book a check before it becomes a bigger job.

Squealing or grinding

A squeal often means the pad wear indicator is touching. Grinding can mean metal on metal and should be checked straight away.

Pulling or vibration

Pulling to one side or a shaking pedal can point to a sticking caliper or warped discs.

Warning light or soft pedal

A brake warning light or a pedal that sinks needs checking before you drive far. Call us and we can collect.

Recent brake work at our Royston workshop

Real photos from recent jobs. Brake calipers can seize when the pistons corrode, which makes the car pull and wears the pads unevenly. A lip on the outer edge of a disc shows how much metal has worn away. We measure pad thickness with a gauge, so you can see what is left rather than take our word for it.

Brake repair questions

How much do brake pads and discs cost?

It depends on the car and which axle needs work. Send your registration and we will quote the parts and labour before anything is ordered.

Can you collect my car?

Yes. Collection is free within 5 miles of the workshop and a small quoted fee beyond that. Courtesy cars can also be booked: you insure the car while you have it and replace any fuel used.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Brake work we carry out comes with our 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labour.

Do you check the brakes during a service?

Yes. Pads, discs, drums where fitted, pipes, hoses and fluid condition are checked on every car service, and anything worn is quoted before work starts.

Will worn brakes fail the MOT?

Brakes are a key part of the MOT, and badly worn or uneven brakes can fail. MOTs are carried out at a local authorised test station, and we fix any brake failures or advisories at our workshop.
