Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt replacement in Royston
The 1.0 EcoBoost Fiesta is one of the most common cars we see with a belt that runs in the engine oil. We replace the timing belt and the oil pump belt for £850 fixed, with the water pump included, at our workshop on Lower Gower Road.

Which Fiestas have the wet belt
Ford brought the belt-in-oil 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder to the UK in 2012, and the Mk7 Fiesta (2012 to 2017) with that engine uses a wet timing belt. If your Fiesta is a Mk7 1.0 EcoBoost, it is the car this page is written for.
The Mk8 Fiesta (2017 to 2023) should mostly have the later engine, where the camshafts are driven by a chain. The earliest Mk8 cars may still have the wet belt, so the build matters more than the shape of the car. Even on the chain engine, the oil pump is still driven by a small belt in the oil.
Send us the registration and we will tell you which engine your Fiesta has before you book. We would rather check than guess from the badge on the boot.
Why the belt matters on a Fiesta
The belt lives in the sump oil. As it ages, the rubber can break up, and the pieces collect on the oil pump pick-up screen. Ford's own service bulletin describes exactly this: belt material clogs the pick-up, oil pressure drops, and the engine can seize. Poor oil, missed services and contaminated oil all make it worse.
Ford has shortened the interval for these engines. In the US it now says 6 years or 100,000 miles for the timing belt and the oil pump belt, down from 10 years or 150,000 miles. UK figures are not always quoted the same way, so check your service schedule; we can confirm from your reg.
What the £850 Fiesta job includes
Locking tools first
The engine is locked with the correct timing tools before anything comes apart, so the cam and crank timing go back exactly right.
Timing belt and oil pump belt
A new timing belt and a new oil pump belt, fitted together in one visit.
Water pump included
New water pump and front case water seal, included in the £850.
New seals and crank bolt
New crank front seal, friction washer and crank bolt, plus a new rocker cover gasket.
Oil pump and strainer
The oil pump is removed and checked, and the strainer is cleaned of any belt debris.
Oil, filter and road test
New oil filter, Ford-spec 5W20 oil, then a road test before you collect.
Signs a Fiesta needs looking at
The first warning is often the oil pressure light. Other signs are a rattle from the engine, a rough idle, or the car being reluctant to start. If a service finds rubber in the oil filter, the belt is already breaking down.
If the oil light comes on, stop driving and call us. Running on low oil pressure is how a belt job turns into an engine job.

Is the water pump included on a Fiesta?
Yes. The £850 includes a new water pump and front case water seal, along with the timing belt and oil pump belt.
My Fiesta is a 2018 car. Does it have a wet belt?
Most later Mk8 Fiestas have the chain engine, but early ones may still have the wet belt, and the chain engine still has an oil pump belt in oil. Send us the reg and we will confirm.
