Which 2008s are affected
The first 2008 arrived in 2013 and was sold with the 1.2 PureTech, both the non-turbo version and the turbo. The second-generation 2008 from 2019 uses the 1.2 PureTech turbo in 100 and 130 form, and both are wet belt engines.
Peugeot's new Turbo 100 engine with a timing chain reached the 2008 from May 2026. Some other late versions with an EB2LTED-type engine code also use a chain. If your 2008 is recent, send us the reg and we will check before you book anything.
Diesel 2008s use a different engine, so this page does not apply to them.
Why it matters on a 2008
Bits of worn belt end up in the oil. They can block the oil pump strainer, which cuts oil pressure, and they can foul the valve timing solenoids. The 2008 is one of the Peugeots named in DVSA recalls where material from the timing belt could affect the brake vacuum pump and reduce braking assistance.
Low mileage does not mean low risk. Oil dilution from short trips and low annual mileage is one of the causes trade suppliers point to, so a tidy 2008 that only goes to the shops can still need the belt.
What we do on a 2008
Engine confirmed
We check the engine code from the reg so we order the right parts first time.
Timing locked
Timing locked with the PureTech tools before the old belt comes out.
New belt and tensioner
OE-spec wet belt and matching tensioner parts, with new bolts where needed.
Pick-up cleaned
Strainer cleaned of debris so the oil pump can breathe.
Approved oil
PSA-approved 5W30 and a new oil filter.
Water pump if you want it
Optional extra, quoted before we start. It is not part of the belt job.
Is your 2008 due?
Peugeot revised the belt interval in April 2017 to 6 years or 100,000 km (about 62,000 miles) in normal European use, and the belt is checked at services through the oil filler with a gauge. Older books may show a longer figure, so check your service schedule; we can confirm from your reg.
Do not wait for a failure. Book it if the oil warning has come on, if the brake pedal feels hard, or if a service says the belt is out of limits.
From our workshop: a 1.2 PureTech with the cam cover off and the belt in view, and a recent Peugeot 2008 in for its wet belt replacement.

£650 fixed for the 1.2 PureTech. The water pump is an optional extra if you want it done at the same time.
Is a 2026 2008 still a wet belt?
Not if it has Peugeot's Turbo 100 engine, which uses a chain and reached the 2008 from May 2026. We check from your reg.
